🗳️ Vote SXSW… a little favour to ask…

Last year I was honoured to be asked to chair a panel at the inaugural SXSW London event. This year, I’ve pitched a talk at them, and it’s now down to a public vote to choose. Would you be a star and pop a vote in for me?

The link to do so is here. Sorry – you may need to register first to be able to vote. Would be massively appreciated!

The text of the proposal is centred around some of the work I’ve been doing on a follow-up to GOD-LIKE (hence the slight quiet around here – soz!):

All technologies amplify our ability to act in the world; the urgent question we need to answer together is, ‘what do we want to do with that power?’
What we should be doing is innovating for a flourishing and fairer society, but while there’s been massive investment in technical capabilities, we’ve failed to match that with investments in people, leading to a potentially toxic imbalance. Kester Brewin, author of God-like: a 500-year History of Artificial Intelligence and Associate Director at the Institute for the Future of Work explores how socio-technical systems theory can help innovation and social good advance together.

Really excited about getting this out there – a truly optimistic and radical manifesto for how we can flourish in this new era of powerful technologies… and wrestle back control from the tech-bros. More news on that shortly, in the meantime… Love to have your vote!

Last year’s event was really fantastic, and it was a particular joy to have Tracey Chevalier (Girl with a Pearl Earring) on a panel I was chairing on the impacts of AI on the creative industries. She was brilliant, and did not hold back on what she felt needed to be done!
